Specialty Laboratories Presents:
Learn why it is important to test for active B12 in the management of patients with vitamin B12 deficiency.
Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to a wide spectrum of hematologic and neuropsychiatric disorders that can often be reversed by early diagnosis and prompt treatment. Total serum vitamin B12 may not reliably indicate vitamin B12 status because 70-80% of the total is not available for cell uptake. Active B12 measurement has improved the sensitivity and specificity for detecting vitamin B12 deficiency.
