ALTERNATE

All specimens should be obtained aseptically by venipuncture. Patients
must be fasting for cryoglobulin and cryofibrinogen testing.
Collect the blood specimen
in a pre-warmed (37 C) vacutainer tube (plain or red-top
for serum, and lavender-top (EDTA) for plasma). Immediately after
collection, continuously maintain vacutainer tubes at 37 C
for 1 hour, followed by centrifugation maintaining 37 C.
Transfer the sample into plastic vials labeled appropriately
(serum or plasma). Once separated from clot or cells, sample is sent
ambient.
