Androstenedione may be useful in evaluating patients with androgen excess and managing patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH).

SST tubes are not acceptable. Draw blood in a red-top tube (no gel).
Separate serum after clotting. Ship serum at room temperature. Do
not submit glass tubes. An early morning specimen is preferred.
