Approximately 65% of mantle cell lymphomas (MCL) are characterized by a t(11;14)(q13;q32) gene translocation that causes deregulation of the expression of the bcl-1 gene. This abnormality in turn leads to deregulation of cyclin D1. Detection of Cyclin D1 is useful in in detecting disease.

Tumor paraffin block (formalin-fixed only) or five 4-micron unstained
sections on Poly-L-Lysine or Silane coated slides. See Specimen
Collection Section, Oncology. Ship at room temperature. Do not place
paper labels with adhesive backing on slides. Use pencil or xylene
resistant pen to write on the frosted end of the slide only.
Pathology report is required.
