Elevated AFP concentrations in amniotic fluid provide laboratory support for the diagnosis of neural tube lesion in the fetus.

Avoid contaminating the fluid with blood.
This test is automatically performed on all Alpha-Fetoprotein amniotic
fluids when the MoM is greater than 1.99.
