The culture isolates and identifies Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the causative agent of gonorrhea.

1. Source of specimen is required. Indicate exact site where specimen
was obtained.
2. Acceptable specimens: Endocervix, male urethra, semen, throat,
fluids.
Unacceptable specimens: Refrigerated or frozen specimens, dry
swabs.
3. Inoculate specimen into a Thayer Martin (TM) agar plate. Seal in
a plastic bag with C02 generating tablet.
4. If TM not available, place swab in Amies with charcoal.
5. Ship within 24 hours of collection, ambient
temperature.
