ALTERNATE

This assay is a qualitative test for the confirmation of specific IgG antibodies recognizing Taenia solium, the agent causing cysticercosis. Detection of antibodies to any of 6 specific T. solium glycoprotein bands of molecular weights 50, 42-39, 24, 21, 18, and 14 kilodaltons is interpreted as a positive result. However, a positive result without reactivity to the 50 and 42-39 glycoprotein bands may reflect crossreactive antibodies induced by echinococcus.
