Hypersecretion of prolactin can be caused by hypothalmic or pituitary tumors, hyopothalamic disease, breast or chest wall stimulation, hypothyroidism, and other conditions. High prolactin concentrations are associated with hypogonadism and low or inappropriately low LH and FSH concentrations.

Overnight fasting is preferred.
