Benzodiazepines are widely used as anxiolytics, sedative-hypnotics, muscle relaxants, and anticonvulsants. Benzodiazepines include drugs such as diazepam Valium(R), chlordiazepoxide Librium(R), oxazepam Serax(R), lorazepam Ativan(R), alprazolam Xanax(R), clonazepam Clonopin(R) and triazolam Halcion(R). Many common benzodiazepines are detected in urine by their metabolites oxazepam and nordiazepam. Psychological and physiological addictions, misuse and abuse of benzodiazepines have been described.
