Predicting skeletal response to antiresorptive therapy. In postmenopausal women, baseline N-Telopeptide (NTx) values are associated with significant risk of bone loss (as measured by bone mineral density). A greater than 30% decrease from baseline after 6 months of hormone replacement therapy or a greater than 40% decrease from baseline after 3 months of antiresorptive therapy (alendronate sodium) indicates a significant therapeutic effect.
