Fungi can infect body fluids and tissues. These infections occur more commonly among patients who are immunocompromised. Early diagnosis and effective treatment can reduce the likelihood of severe sequalae.

Specimen requirement: Primary specimen from any source in sterile,
leak-proof container. Tissues or brushes in transport medium or in
a small amount of sterile saline are acceptable. If culture is
requested a second swab must be submitted. Skin/hair/nails, refer
to test code 14824. CSF requires medical director approval.
