Vancomycin is an antibiotic used in the treatment of serious bacterial infections, especially methicillin-resistant staphylococci. Vancomycin is also used in treatment for penicillin- allergic patients who cannot receive or have failed to respond to other drugs, including the penicillins and/or cephalosporins, and for other infections caused by vancomycin-susceptible organisms.

Patient Preparation:
Collect peak sample 1 hour after completion of the drug infusion.
Collect as a trough just prior to next dose.

1 mL (0.2 mL minimum) serum collected in each of two separate
red-top tube (no gel) tubes
