(e.g., Lowenstein-Jensen agar slant) in screw-capped transport
media slant enclosed in a double walled container with biohazard
label Infectious Substance; indicate source

Acceptable Specimen: Mycobacterial broth medium

Deliver to microbiology laboratory as soon as possible

1. Send PURE culture only. If the specimen submitted is mixed, there will be separate charges for each organism that requires Mycobacterium identification. 2. There may be a delay in turn around time if the specimen submitted is mixed with non-acid fast bacteria or the broth has insufficient organism mass to perform DNA probe. 3. If M. tuberculosis is identified, assay will automatically reflex to susceptibility testing at an additional charge. Call Client Services for details.
