Susceptibility reports can be used as a guide in the choice of first course therapy or in confirming antimicrobial resistance that leads to a further course of treatment. Also used to estimate the prevalence of primary and acquired antimicrobial resistance in a community.

Pure culture agar slant/plate or broth-based media must be safely
contained in double-walled container.
Transport at room temperature. Mixed or contaminated cultures are not
acceptable.

container.

1. Send Pure Culture only. If the specimen is mixed, there will be no work up pending clarification with the client. 2. Primary susceptibility testing is automatically performed on all M.tuberculosis isolated from culture. 3. Results are reported as: Susceptible or Resistant. The units of measure are reported on the final report as they relate to the agar proportion method (Method of proportion). 4. If M.tuberculosis complex isolate is resistant to one or more primary drugs, it can be confirmed by agar proportion method, AFB Susceptibility: Mycobacterium spp., test code # 5653 at an additional charge. Methodology: Broth Based Susceptibility (a variation of the Agar Proportion Method)
