Aids in the diagnosis of septicemia, endocarditis, fever of unknown origin, and sepsis.

1. Collect a minimum of 10 mL blood prior to a predicted fever
spike or before the administration of antibiotics.
2. For pediatric patients, collect 0.5 mL to 2 mL of blood.
3. It is recommended to collect two sets of cultures, one from each
of two prepared sites at least 30 minutes interval is recommended.
4. Ship blood culture bottles at ambient temperature.
