The culture isolates and identifies significant pathogens responsible for eye and ear related infections.

1. Source of specimen is required. Specify the exact site where the
specimen was obtained. Do not label the specimen "ear" or "eye"
only.
2. Acceptable specimens:
Eye: Conjunctiva, cornea, eyelid, aqueous or vitreous sample.
Ear: Tympanocentesis fluid, aspirates, or scrapings.
3. Unacceptable specimens: Dry swabs, frozen specimens
4. For corneal scrapings, inoculate bacteriological media (e.g.,
Chocolate agar plate, etc.) at the collection site. Please call
Technical Services for details.
5. Ship specimen at ambient temperature within 24 hours of collection.
