ALTERNATE

The concentration of MBP is often increased in patients with demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis and may be increased in patients with head injury, CNS trauma, tumor, stroke, and viral encephalitis.

Do not centrifuge CSF. Refrigerate CSF and send refrigerated (cold
packs) or freeze CSF specimens -20 degrees C or lower and send
frozen samples on dry ice to the laboratory. Blood contamination
and hemolysis may interfere with results. CSF must be clear.
Submitting 4th lumbar puncture collection tube minimizes blood
contamination.
