Proinsulin is used to detect and monitor excessive hormone production from insulinomas.

Allow blood to fully clot (about 1/2 hour) at room temperature (20-25
degrees C). Centrifuge in a refrigerated centrifuge and separate
serum immediately. Specimens collected in serum separator tubes should
be removed from the gel after centrifugation.

Overnight fasting is required.
