This test is used to detect Herpes simplex virus in specimens collected in PreservCyt (ThinPrep) solution.

Labs performing cytology: Aliquot PreservCyt(R) or SurePath(TM)
solution within 4 days of collection before performance of liquid
based cytology testing.

PreservCyt(R): Sample any visible lesions. Transfer 1 mL of
PreservCyt(R) solution into APTIMA(R) Vaginal Collection or
Multi-Test Collection Tube (orange label) or
APTIMA(R) specimen transfer tube (green label); Ship to lab.

Surepath(TM): Sample any visible lesions. Transfer 0.5 mL of
Surepath(TM) preservative fluid into APTIMA(R) Vaginal Collection
or Multi-Test Collection Tube (orange label) or
APTIMA(R) specimen transfer tube (green label). Ship to lab.

Reject Criteria
PreservCyt(R) material previously processed for cytology;
PreservCyt(R) with excess mucus
