Aid in assessment of cardiovascular disease risk Sequence variants within the 9p21 locus of chromosome 9 have been shown to predict increased risk for: 1. Early onset myocardial infarction (early MI) 2. Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) 3. Myocardial infarction/coronary heart disease (MI/CHD) in general The 9p21 polymorphism variants occur within a region thought to be involved in cell-cycle regulatory control. While the mechanism relating these sequence variants to cardiovascular disease pathophysiology is not yet understood, the disease association has been replicated in several studies. Counseling and informed consent are recommended for genetic testing.
|
Multiple (up to 8) cardiovascular-related genetic tests can be
performed on a single specimen. A second lavender-top (EDTA) tube
is required if non-genetic tests are stimultaneously ordered that
require a lavender-top (EDTA) tube.
For whole blood samples, follow normal phlebotomy procedures.
Buccal Swab collection must use either:
Buccal Swab DNA Collection Kit
Celera Diagnostics, Alameda, CA
Catalog #169045
OR
Buccal Swab Collection Kit
DNA Genotek, Ottawa, ON
Catalog #OC-100
For Buccal Swabs, follow manufacturer's collection instructions.
