The determination of insulin in serum is primarily used for the diagnosis of glycemic disorders in diabetic and pre-diabetic patients. It also is used in the assessment of insulin resistant syndromes.

Overnight fasting. Humalog (Lispro) is a known interference with this
assay. If medically indicated and under physician supervision, the
patient should refrain from taking this compound for 24 hours prior
to draw.
