Oral swab, throat swab or vaginal swab collected in ESwab Mini-tip Transport System (blue-cap)
Reject Criteria: Stool; Sputum; Blood; Bone marrow; Hair; Skin; Nails; Specimen received frozen; Specimen in formalin; Serum
Transport Temperature: Preservered Specimen - Room Temperature; Unpreserved Specimen - Refrigerated (cold packs)
Specimen Stability:

Methodology: Culture with Phenotypic, Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization-Time of Flight Susceptibility testing is only performed when appropriate using Minimum Inhibtory Concentration (MIC) Susceptibility will be performed at an additional charge (CPT code(s): 87186). Additional identification may be performed at an additional charge (CPT code(s): 87106). DNA sequencing and Direct Probe are additional identification methods. If the organism cannot be identified by the original method or if there are multiple organisms, either may be performed at an additional charge (CPT code(s): DNA sequencing 87153, Direct Probe 87149).
