Mutations in MUTYH are causative of MUTYH-associated polyposis (MAP). Unlike many of the hereditary cancer conditions, MAP is a recessive condition. Individuals with MAP have an increased lifetime risk of polyposis and colorectal cancer (up to 80%) and cancer of the small bowel (5-17%). MAP accounts for 1% of all colorectal cancer cases with a carrier frequency of 1-2%. This test detects pathogenic variants in the MUTYH gene.

Specimen stability is crucial. Store and ship room temperature
immediately. Do not freeze. Send report of results for
family member with known mutation.
