The chimeric junction of the translocation t(14l18) (q32;18q21.3) is assayed by Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) with probes from the regions IgH (14q32) and BCL2 (18q21.3). This assay is useful to dignose follicular lymphoma (>75%) and some diffuse large cell lymphomas. The FISH assay can be performed on cells in interphase, overcoming the frequent lack of metaphases from B-cells in culture.
