The IgH region of chromosome 14q32 is frequently implicated in translocation seen in hematological malignancies of B-cell origin. The separation of the probes used is an indication of a translocation to other chromosomal region and therefore of a positive result. Other tests may be necessary to further investigate on the nature of the translocation. The FISH assay can be performed on cells in interphase, overcoming the frequent lack of metaphases from B-cells in culture.

Submit 1-3 mL of bone marrow in transport media or sodium heparin tube
or 3-5mL of peripheral blood in sodium heparin tube.
Lymph node biopsy 5x5 mm in transport media or formalin-fixed paraffin
embedded tisue block.
Transport media available upon request.
SPECIMEN VIABILITY DECREASES DURING TRANSIT. SEND SPECIMEN TO TESTING
LAB FOR VIABILITY DETERMINATION. DO NOT REJECT.

Lymph node submitted in Hanks' or Ringers' solution is no longer
acceptable.
